Introduction :
‘Evangelion’ written and directed by Hideaki Anno is surely one of the most popular Japanese animations. It has been popular worldwide since its first showing on TV in 1995. Moreover, it still attracts new fans, and those facts tell us that the animation is truly a mega hit. And now, it has come back as a theatrical series!!!
The new theatrical series is neither a remake nor a sequel of the TV series, “Neon Genesis Evangelion” (1995). The first episode, “Evangelion:1.0 You Are (Not) Alone.”, starts from almost the same situation with the TV series. However, it does not use any footage from the TV series. By using the latest digital art, 3D CG, a completely new visual with much higher quality has been made. The story, which seems to be the same with the TV series at the beginning, is also changed. New characters will be shown, and the characters from the TV series will see their different fates…
The new theatrical series consists of 4 episodes. The 4 episodes are scheduled to be released in 3 times, releasing the third and fourth episodes together. The staff is the same with the TV series, including the chief director, Hideaki Anno.
 

Story :
For the global disaster ‘Second Impact’, half the human population of Earth was killed. One day, when a 14 year-old boy, Shinji Ikari, came to the fortress city Tokyo-3 to visit his father, he saw a giant creature.
The unknown creature was called ‘Angel’, and it started attacking the city and the army. Shinji was involved in the battle, and was saved by a woman, Misato Katsuragi. She took him to a special governmental agency, ‘Nerv’, and there he met his father as the commander of Nerv...
Shinji’s father, Gendou Ikari, forced his son to fight against Angels, showing him an enormous artificial humanoid called ‘Evangelion’. At first, Shinji refused to be the pilot of ‘Evangelion’. However, seeing the other pilot girl, Rei Ayanami, who has a strong will to fight against the enemies, Shinji gradually made his mind.
