Welcome to the world’s most daredevil festival, held every year in the otherwise quiet castle town of Kishiwada, near Osaka. Hundreds of participants race through narrow streets steering giant traditional floats called Danjiri, risking injury to themselves, the half-million spectators sharing their course and some very unlucky telephone poles... The elaborate wooden floats, each weighing about four tons and costing millions of dollars, are pulled, steered, and braked by a team of up to five hundred participants who must  zip throughthe course while avoiding buildings, not to mention people, along the way. Watch as the locals take in stride the loss of a sign here or a wall there—it’s all part of the fun.
