Health through heat

People in Japan are enduring a bit of heat in search of good health.

Visitors to a temple in central Japan are undergoing a treatment called moxibustion.

In moxibustion, or okyu in Japanese, monks burn a small amount of herbs on the skin.

The cure is often used by monks to recover from fatigue in their training.

The treatments are offered on the first of June and July each year.

Historically, this is the season when farmers have finished the hard work of planting their crops.
