Japan’s Empress Michiko is engaged in her yearly cultivation of silkworms.

The Empress today transferred the worms to a special frame where they’ll form cocoons.

She reportedly expressed relief the worms hadn’t been affected by disease.

Silk produced from the worms will be used in fabrics for Japan’s court rituals and to repair precious antiques.
