‘Mountain Day’ Japan’s newest national holiday

Japan has a new national holiday.

Officials announced the creation of “Mountain Day.”

The holiday will take place every August 11th from 2016.

Officials said the day is meant to give thanks and bring people closer to mountains.

Japan is a mountainous country, with many peaks and volcanos including the iconic Mt. Fuji.

The new holiday is Japan’s first official day off in August.

Japan already has an Ocean Day so apparently politicians wanted to balance it with a day devoted to mountains.
