Summer comes to Asakusa

People in Tokyo are welcoming one of the traditional sights of summer in the city.

The ancient Chinese Lantern Plant festival got underway today at Sensoji Temple in the city’s old Asakusa district.

The festival often marks the end of the rainy season, but today the skies were overcast.

About 120 sellers of the plant set up their stalls around the temple.

One plant goes for about 25 dollars.

The Chinese Lantern Plant festival continues through tomorrow.
