Yoichi Masuzoe, the newly-elected governor of Tokyo, aims to significantly update the city’s infrastructure in preparation for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

“We are working on repairing the capital’s motorways and other such necessary improvements, but we need to move faster,” he said. “Foreigners experience plenty of inconveniences in Tokyo, but we must fix them.”

The governor said that it is necessary to hasten the improvements to much of the city’s infrastructure to make it easier to access the city from airports and other transport facilities.

Masuzoe wants the future Olympic Village to be powered by the people of Tokyo. To that end, he will promote research into renewable energy.

He will also travel to Sochi to formally meet with International Olympic Committee members and study how the Russians prepared for the event’s security.
