Celebs join Shinshoji Setsubun festival

It may still be cold, but people in Japan are already welcoming the oncoming spring.

Visitors to Shinshoji temple near Tokyo held a traditional spring festival called “Setsubun.”

It’s a time when people throw roasted soybeans to drive away demons and bring happiness for the new year.

Recalling Japan’s devastating 2011 tsunami, people cried out for triumph over earthquakes.

Sumo champion Hakuho and famous actors joined in throw the lucky beans.

More than 2,600 pounds of beans and peanuts will be thrown at this event.

Over 40,000 people are expected to visit.
