Cherry blossoms first sign of spring

A first sign of spring was observed in Japan today (Monday).

Cherry blossoms appeared at a park in Kumamoto in the country’s southwest.

Weather officials said recent sunny weather caused the trees to bloom about a week early.

Temperatures hit about 17 degrees celsius at midday—warmth typical of mid-April.

Japanese people will be holding cherry blossom viewing parties for the next month as spring makes its way north up the archipelago.
