Phantom squid caught alive

Japanese fisherman have captured yet another rare deep-sea squid, this time alive.

It was discovered ensnared on Friday near Sado, an island in the Sea of Japan.

Scientists are keeping the specimen, known in Japanese as a “phantom squid,” in an aquarium for further study.

Normally found near Australia at depths of around two to six-hundred meters, the squid is seldom caught alive near Japan.
