China: Japanese planes approached within 30 meters

China has posted video of Japanese fighters on a government website along with a claim they flew abnormally close to one of its own warplanes.

The claim involves an incident that took place yesterday over the East China Sea.

China’s Defense Ministry says its plane was conducting a normal patrol of its air self-identification zone.

It says two Japanese F-15s pursued its own Tu154 fighter and approached within 30 meters of the plane.

The statement criticized Japan for threatening the safety of its plane and said Japan was raising tensions in the region.

Japan’s Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said its planes were observing international law.

He said China might have released the footage out of a sense of guilt.

Onodera said Japan’s fighters had scrambled smoothly and maintained a fixed distance.
