Haruhi, disguising as a boy, sets out as an intern host in Ouran High School Host Club
"Ouran High School Host Club" is an animation based on the popular girls' comic series by the same title.
The story takes place in a prestigious private school, Ouran High School, where only children of the filthy rich could even hope to attend and unfolds around an unheard-of society in the school called the "Host Club," whose handsome, affluent, and bored male members enslave themselves to similarly beautiful, affluent, and bored lady students.
The central character is Haruhi Fujioka, a gifted girl enrolled in the school on scholarship, who was raised single-handedly by her father due to her mother's early death. Because of her father's spendthrift habits, however, she cannot even afford to buy the required school uniform and is forced to dress rough like the boys - clad in a men's shirt, sweater, jeans, and sunglasses. One day, Haruhi accidentally wanders into the Host Club room and shatters a treasured pottery belonging to the club, worth 8 million yen (approx. $70,000). The club members demand that she pay for the damage, but of course, poor Haruhi has no such money. She ends up agreeing to serve as an "errand boy" in the club. It is at such a time that the leader of the club, Tamaki, suggests, "If you manage to build up your own clientele to 100 ladies, we'll drop the damage charge."
Thus, Haruhi, disguising as a boy, sets out as an intern host in the Host Club, entertaining and catering to the needs of the female students. While constantly thrown into turmoil by the good-looking but preposterous fellow club members as well as her insane "clients", Haruhi develops great friendships and even promotes a new awareness in her peers - a funny yet pleasantly provocative and moving story.
