HANAE AOISHI (Haruka Ayase) is a drab-looking woman working at a trading company who is moments away from her 30thbirthday. Still living with her parents and having only two pastimes of watching movies alone and walking her dog, Hanae is the type who carries a low-profile wherever she goes as not to stand out. Her colleagues and boss believe that she has a boyfriend named Mamoru--though indeed Mamoru is the name of her pet dog and a big white lie to save her from questions that poke about her love life which she simply did not have. In actuality, Hanae was a virgin who has not had one romantic experience her entire life.

One day, after a company after-hours, she ends up sharing drinks with YUTO TANOKURA (Sota Fukushi), a college kid who works at her office. When Tanokura finds out that today is her 30thbirthday, he decides to celebrate it for her. Being the rookie in dating, Hanae is confused and puzzled by this kid's behavior nine years her junior, but becomes gradually drawn to him. Spellbound by the moment, she ends up finding herself in bed with him the next morning! In haste, she heads for work but is confronted by YU ASAO (Hiroshi Tamaki), the CEO of another company in the same building. He points out that she is wearing the same clothes as the day before, and teases her with dead-on accusations. Plunged by her outrageous act, she calls in to take the day off.

I'm Taking the Day Off is a drama for every woman with its collection of heartwarming situations and wistful moments that spur at the beginning of any romance. It depicts a woman who has taken the backseat in romance all of her life, but who slowly decides to break that safe zone with her first boyfriend ever--a coming-of-age story of an adult woman who learns through her repeated failures in love. One of Japan's most popular actresses of her times and also known for her hit series, Hotarunohikari, Haruka Ayase plays the role magnificently. Supporting her are the two actors: rising star, Sota Fukushi and the ever handsome, Hiroshi Tamaki who has been casted in countless TV dramas and films.
