Announcement marks 8th adaptation of Asia's #1 exported scripted format

TOKYO AND MONGOLIA – January 11, 2024 – Nippon TV, Japan's leading multiplatform entertainment powerhouse announced today that Mongol's Green Show Production has finalized production of the scripted Mongolian-language format of Nippon TV's award-winning drama series Mother (60 min. eps). Ээж (Mother in Mongolian) will stream first on Mongolia's VOO IPTV platform from January 11th and air on Mongolia's Edutainment TV (Edu TV) starting January 20th. In addition to the adaptation in Mongolia, Mother has been adapted in Turkey, South Korea, Ukraine, Thailand, China, France, and Spain, with upcoming production in Arabic, making it Asia's most exported and locally adapted scripted format, according to research by K7 Media. The announcement was made today by Sayako Aoki, Head of Scripted Formats, Global Business, Nippon TV.

Mother is a very unique story that continues to touch the hearts of global audiences, making it a timeless scripted format. We cannot wait for the local audience in Mongolia to encounter this remarkable series, produced by Green Show Production, who had a strong aspiration from the very beginning stages to create a series that has important social relevance,” commented Aoki.

Mother tells the story of a solace substitute teacher who realizes that one of her pupils is a victim of child abuse. Acting upon instinct, she kidnaps the student to save her from the abusive biological mother and the volatile boyfriend and flees to her own adoptive mother's place- all while trying to escape from the police.

The script of the original version of Mother that aired on Nippon TV in Japan is written by the award-winning writer Yuji Sakamoto, whose hit dramas with Nippon TV include Woman—My Life for My Children—, anone, and most recently Love with a Case. At the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, Sakamoto received the Best Screenplay Award for Monster.
