Nippon TV Subsidiary HJ Holdings, Inc. Allocates New Shares to Third Parties
Nippon Television Network Corporation (Nippon TV) announces that its subsidiary HJ Holdings, Inc., which operates the online subscription video on demand (SVOD) service Hulu, has allocated new shares to third parties Hulu, LLC (California, USA), Yahoo Japan Corporation, Toho Co., Ltd., Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation, and Chukyo TV Broadcasting Co., Ltd.
Hulu's Japan service became the country's first fixed-rate online SVOD provider in September 2011, offering viewers a new way to enjoy entertainment. Upon becoming a fully-owned subsidiary of Nippon TV in April 2014, Hulu began to enjoy a dramatic increase in its subscriber base, which surpassed 1.55 million members at the end of March 2017.
Hulu is happy to welcome the following new third-party shareholders: Hulu, LLC, which operates the premium online SVOD service in the United States; Yahoo Japan Corporation, which runs Japan's largest internet portal; Toho Co., Ltd., Japan's largest motion picture production and distribution company; as well as Nippon TV affiliate stations Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation (Osaka) and Chukyo TV Broadcasting Co., Ltd (Nagoya).
This new capital alliance enables Hulu to further strengthen its business operations, produce and acquire even more entertaining content, and enhance promotional activities. Nippon TV is committed to supporting Hulu in its endeavor to bring the finest content to subscribers.
