Cybercrime on the rise

Japan’s National Police Agency reports that cybercrime rates are up for the year.

Japanese people filed about 80,000 complaints in total, leading to over 8,000 arrests.

That’s a 10.6 percent increase over last year and an all-time high.

About 6,600 of those crimes are related to illegal internet usage, including child pornography and copyright violations.

There were almost 3,000 reports of unauthorized access, half of which were fraudulent bank transfers.

Japanese police are working hard to keep up with this ever-evolving category of crime.
