Japanese educator now world’s oldest man

A 111-year-old retired Japanese educator is now the world’s oldest living man.

Sakari Momoi lives in Saitama Prefecture, on the outskirts of Tokyo.

The previous titleholder, Dr. Alexander Imich, passed away in New York on Sunday.

Momoi is one day younger than Dr. Imich.

He was born in 1903 and hails from Fukushima Prefecture.

Momoi taught at high schools and served as a principal in Saitama.

The world’s oldest man is fond of fish and loves to read books.

Japan now claims both the world’s oldest living man and woman.

The oldest person on earth is a 116-year-old Japanese woman, Misao Okawa.
