OpenAI launches first Asian office in Tokyo



US firm OpenAI, which develops conversational AI system such as ChatGPT, launched its first Asian office in Tokyo on April 15. 

At a press conference for the opening of the Tokyo office, CEO Sam Altman gave a message. 

S/ Sam Altman, CEO OpenAI: We believe that AI will empower the people of Japan to be even more creative and productive, further propelling their contribution to global progress. 

OpenAI has also started offering GPT-4, which is optimized for the Japanese language, to Japanese companies, and plans to gradually expand its partnerships with the Japanese government and businesses in the future. 

OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap revealed that more than 2 million people in Japan use ChatGPT every day and emphasized that “Japan is an important market” for the company.
