Free hot springs day

  Hot spring lovers in central Japan are enjoying a free dip today.

Five hot springs in the city of Takayama offer free admission every June 26.

“Rotenburo,” meaning “outdoor hot spring,” sounds like the Japanese words for “June 26.”

Bathers get a special gift for visiting four or more locations in one day.

Japan is geologically active and has hundreds of hot springs.

Bathing in the springs is thought be good for health.

It’s been a favorite activity of Japanese people since ancient times.
