Riders test their mettle at a pig rodeo

Locals were hamming it up at an annual pig rodeo held yesterday in western Japan.

Pig farming is a major industry in the town of Mikame.

The rodeo is part of a local summer festival.

Participants see how long they can stay on the back of a 280-pound porker.

The winner managed to stay on the squealing pig for 5.13 seconds.

He says he trained for the past three months by lifting weights, eating a special diet and doing visualization exercises every night.
