Toranomon Hills opens as Tokyo’s second tallest building

Powerful politicians gathered in Tokyo today to launch what is now the city’s second tallest building.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe took part in the opening ceremony for Toranamon Hills in the Toranomon business district.

The 247-meter skyscraper opens to the public tomorrow.

Prime Minister Abe said Toranomon Hills would help make Tokyo a cosmopolitan city.

The tower has 52 floors with offices, retail and residential units.

On upper floors, Hyatt’s boutique Andaz hotel enters the Japanese market for the first time.

The Toranomon area is to be redeveloped in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
