Japan announces new sanctions on Russia

Japan will impose new sanctions on Russia in response to its interference in Ukraine.

Japan’s Foreign Ministry announced the sanctions with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on his way to Europe, where Russia is sure to figure high in talks with leaders.

23 Russian officials will be denied entry visas to Japan.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry reportedly expressed disappointment with the sanctions and suggested the possibility of countermeasures.

Japan first imposed sanctions over Russia’s actions in Crimea.

Japan’s Prime Minister Abe had tried to boost ties with Russia until the troubles began in Ukraine.
