Boy forced to change schools because school did nothing on bullying

It was revealed on April 9 that an elementary school in Nara, western Japan, did not take appropriate measures
even though a boy complained of bullying, and he had to transfer to another school.

According to the report of an investigation committee, a boy who attended the Nara University of Education Elementary School was told by several classmates
to “die” and “disappear” from 2022 to last year and was also punched and stomped on.

In addition, a classmate asked his peer students to raise their hands if they “thought the boy was unnecessary” in front of the homeroom teacher.

When he complained to the teacher about being ostracized, the teacher did not take it seriously, saying, “I think it’s just your imagination.”

The boy started to be absent from school in May 2023, and transferred schools three months later.

The investigation committee recognized the actions of the classmates as “bullying” and determined that
the homeroom teacher and others were aware of the possibility of bullying but did not take appropriate measures, which lead to his transfer.

At this elementary school, there was a case in which a homeroom teacher ignored a complaint of bullying, and a student transferred schools in 2013.
