The mother of a Thai girl who was forced into sexual services in Tokyo has been detained in Taiwan.

The mother left her 12-year-old daughter at a massage parlor in Tokyo where she was forced to engage in sexual acts.

According to Thai police, the girl's mother, who was believed to have returned home, was found to have traveled to Taiwan and was detained on suspicion of involvement in another prostitution case.

Thai media reports indicate the mother is believed to have forced the girl to work to repay debts, leaving her care to relatives and spending little time with her. 

Thai police plan to transfer the mother to Thailand for investigation on human trafficking charges.
