Jet veers off runway during landing at Narita Airport, disrupting commercial flights
At around 1 p.m. on April 16, a small plane veered off a runway on landing at Narita Airport and came to a stop while kicking up clouds of dust.
According to the transport ministry's Narita Airport office, three people were aboard the business jet arriving from Shizuoka Airport, and there were no reports of injuries.
The runway was temporarily closed while workers removed the aircraft.
All Nippon Airways canceled six round-trip flights connecting Narita with New Chitose, Chubu Centrair and Osaka Itami airports.
Japan Airlines canceled three flights, including those bound for Chubu Centrair and Osaka Itami.
As for international routes, two All Nippon Airways flights from Honolulu, Hawaii, were diverted to Chubu Centrair.
The Japan Transport Safety Board has classified the occurrence as a serious incident that calls for dispatching investigators to the site.
