Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko visit Gakushuin Museum
Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko visited the Gakushuin Museum at Gakushuin University on the morning of April 29.
Gakushuin University requested that the Imperial couple visit the facility, and this marks their first visit since the museum’s renovation this spring.
In celebration of the re-opening, the museum is holding a special exhibit, called “Gakushuin Collection: Patronage of the Imperial Household for the Arts and Culture”.
Among the many items on display is a silk embroidered robe montante worn by Empress Emerita Michiko that was donated to the museum.
On April 27, Emperor Naruhito also visited the University and attended a related symposium with a keynote speech by Imperial Family member Princess Akiko.
