Firework barge catches fire inYokohama, injures one
Fire broke out on a fireworks launch barge during a festival in Yokohama on August 4, injuring one worker who was on board.
Police received multiple reports around 7:45PM that a barge had caught fire.
According to the Yokohama Coast Guard, the fire started on a barge used to launch fireworks. Another barge nearby also caught fire.
Five fireworks technicians were on the barge at the time. All of them jumped into the sea and were rescued. One was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Spectator / The fireworks just started going off on their own. I smelled something burning and saw flames.
The fireworks display was canceled immediately after the incident.
According to the police, the organizers also reported that the barge was “out of control.”
They are further investigating the cause.
