In Shizuoka City, tornadoes and strong gusts on July 14 caused a tornado warning to be issued.
A car was overturned in a parking lot.
The side of this car was indented possibly from bumping into another car in the strong gusts.
In one residential district, roof tiles were blown away.
S/ Neighbor/ I heard a sound like the corrugated roof was ripping apart and when I looked in the sky, I saw a tornado lifting things up and up.
Debris were strewn about from the sudden gusts.
Residents recounted the story the same way.
S/ Resident whose home was damaged/ A sudden gust hit, and the house swayed as if it was a Shindo lower five earthquake.
S/ Neighbor/ It was like bam, wham, whack! I thought it was an earthquake.
The impact was strong enough to be mistaken as an earthquake.
S/ Neighbor/ There was no warning. It’s the first time I’ve experienced this in my 83 years.
Damage from gusts were also seen in Gifu City in central Japan.
S/ Reporter/ Roof tiles have been largely peeled off. The roof of this building appears to be completely blown away. Everything inside is visible.
A greenhouse was destroyed.
A utility pole was also split in two.
S/ Resident/ I heard a scraping sound for about 20 seconds. It sounded like a dragon or something was running across the roof.

Eastern Japan also experienced continuous downpour and strong winds.
S/ Reporter/ It’s around 2PM in front of Shimbashi Station. A downpour has suddenly started. The wind is strong, causing trees to swat.
S/ Reporter/ It is currently past 4PM in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. The rain is coming down hard.
Active rain clouds continued to cover central and eastern Japan.
The rain temporarily stopped in the evening of July 15, but downpours are expected to resume the following day.
