Shibuya Station image in 2030 revealed: New pedestrian walkway

S/ Hidaka Mizuki, NTV Reporter / I'm standing right above Shibuya Station on the Ginza Line. A pedestrian walkway will be built here to connect the east and west sides of the station.

The pedestrian walkway is part of a joint project between Tokyu, East Japan Railway and Tokyo Metro for a once-in-a-century redevelopment of the area around Shibuya Station.

The walkway is expected to improve convenience for visitors and help reduce congestion in the busy station and surrounding areas.

At one end, there will be a deck leading to places such as the square where the Hachiko dog statue sits.

The walkway is scheduled for completion during fiscal 2030.

The redevelopment project also includes the construction of two new buildings that will house commercial facilities.

Officials aim to complete the entire project in fiscal 2034.
