Typhoon makes first landfall in Hokkaido in 9 years, heavy rainfall alert continues
Typhoon Nari made landfall near Cape Erimo, Hokkaido, at around 2AM on July 15. It moved to the Sea of Okhotsk and changed to a low pressure system at 9AM.
Heavy rain lashed the Tokai Region, including Shizuoka Prefecture. Shizuoka City recorded 272.5 mm of rain, and Toyota City in Aichi Prefecture had 211 mm of rain in 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall and thunder are expected in Tokai and Kanto Koshin regions, with 150 mm of rainfall expected in 24 hours until the morning of July 16.
The amount of rainfall is expected to increase to 200 mm in the Tokai region and 150 mm in the Kanto Koshin region by July 17.
Weather officials have called on people to stay alert for flooding and rising river levels.
