A 37-year-old man was arrested after he stabbed his father in Fukuoka Prefecture on December 15.

The father, who is in his 70s, was in critical condition but was conscious when taken to hospital.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of violating the Firearms and Swords Control Law as he turned himself into police carrying a knife covered in blood.

The suspect is believed to have stabbed his father multiple times in the neck and other areas from behind while both were seated in a passenger vehicle.

He has reportedly told police that he stabbed his father with the intent to kill him.

Police are investigating the incident as a possible attempted murder case.
