Japan's Princess Kako to visit Brazil

The Imperial Household Agency announced on March 4 that Princess Kako will make an official visit to Brazil in June to mark the 130th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

The Brazilian government invited the princess in February for the celebratory occasion.

Japan and Brazil have also designated the year 2025 as the Japan-Brazil Friendship Exchange Year.

According to the Imperial Household Agency, the trip will be about two weeks in early June.

Plans are underway for Princess Kako to pay a courtesy call on the Brazilian president and attend events marking the 130th anniversary of bilateral relations.
The princess is also expected to visit cities where Japanese who emigrated to Brazil and their descendants live.

The trip will be Princess Kako’s fourth international goodwill visit, following her visit to Greece in 2024.

Crown Prince Fumito and Crown Princess Kiko visited Brazil in 2015 marking the 120th anniversary of diplomatic ties. Their daughter Komuro Mako also visited the country in 2018.
