Emperor and family to visit Tokyo memorial hall to wrap up 80th anniversary trips

Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako and their daughter Princess Aiko plan to visit the Tokyo Metropolitan Memorial Hall on October 23.
The Imperial Household Agency said they will pay tribute to those who lost their lives in World War II and pray for peace.
The hall houses the remains of victims of both the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake and the Tokyo air raids during the Pacific War that ended in 1945.
Their visit will wrap up the imperial family’s commemorative trips to various parts of Japan to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war.
The emperor and empress traveled this year to Iwoto, Okinawa, Hiroshima and Nagasaki to honor war victims.
Aiko joined her parents when they visited Okinawa in June and Nagasaki in September.
Iwoto is formerly known as Iwojima, an island where fierce battle between Japan and the United States took place during World War II.
