Two men die in separate water accidents, teen goes missing at beach

Authorities said emergency services received a call on July 11 saying that a person who entered the basin at Ushinotaki waterfalls in Aichi Prefecture had not come back out.

Firefighters rescued a 24-year-old Indonesian national, but he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

The man visited the area with three friends and reportedly jumped into the plunge pool alone.

In neighboring Gifu Prefecture, a 65-year-old man who had come to fish in the Hida river was swept away and died.

The man reportedly swam to try to retrieve a piece of his fishing equipment that drifted away but drowned and sank into the water.

Police are urging people to wear life jackets when fishing and to check the river current and footing conditions to ensure safety in the waters.

Meanwhile, a search operation is underway in Kanagawa Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, where a 16-year-old male went missing after being swept out to sea at a beach on July 12.

The teenager is believed to be a high school student who visited the beach with five friends.

Authorities said they received an emergency call reporting that a man was swept offshore while swimming with friends.

A wave advisory was in effect in the area at the time.

The beach had not yet opened for the swimming season, and there were no lifeguards on duty.
