Car explodes and burns near Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department received a report at around 6PM on October 28 that a car was burning on a road near Yasukuni Shrine.

The vehicle was a rental car, and the fire is believed to have started near the bumper.

Witness / We rushed to bang on the car to tell the passengers to open the door and get out. It burned pretty fiercely for about five minutes. I heard explosions twice, and I honestly panicked.

No injuries were reported from the fire, and the two people who were in the car were also confirmed safe.

Officials are questioning the driver and investigating the details.
