Temple assesses damage after magnitude 5 quake hit central Japan
Omachi City in Nagano Prefecture reported damage from the magnitude 5 earthquake that hit the northern part of the prefecture on April 18 around 8:19 PM.
The city registered lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7.
At Kakuonji Temple, the quake toppled and damaged the statue of Jikokuten, a nationally designated important cultural property.
S/ Kakuonji Temple Chief Priest/ This is the first time such a large earthquake has struck. We would really like it to be repaired quickly so people can rest assured.
According to Omachi City, 13 cases of roof tiles falling as well as damage to graves and stone block walls have been confirmed.
There are no reported injuries.
The meteorological agency has warned residents to stay vigilant for earthquakes for the next week.
