Man allegedly stabs woman in front of responding police in Hokkaido

Police arrested a 27-year-old Indonesian man on suspicion of attempting to kill a 21-year-old female compatriot in Japan's northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on June 4, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the abdomen in a residential area of Chitose.
Police said the woman was later confirmed dead at a hospital.
A responding police officer and a male acquaintance of the victim sustained injuries that are not life-threatening.
S/ Witness / I heard loud shouting, and when I looked down, a woman was lying on the ground. A police officer seemed to be stepping on a knife with his foot while pinning a person down.
The suspect is believed to have been acquainted with the victim.
Police officials said the stabbing took place right in front of responding police.
The suspect has admitted to the allegations, saying he stabbed her with the intention to kill.
Police are investigating the motive.
