TICAD wraps up with pledge to strengthen cooperation for Africa's economic growth

S/ Ishiba Shigeru, Japanese Prime Minister / Africa has tremendous potential and growth prospects, but it also faces many challenges that can be resolved together with Japan. We want to further develop a win-win relationship moving forward.
Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru made the remarks at a joint press conference after the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development ended in Yokohama on August 22.
Participants adopted the Yokohama Declaration that calls for stronger cooperation in the public and private sectors toward Africa's economic growth.
The document also includes Japan's commitment to help in its areas of strength including AI, farming and healthcare.
With the Trump tariffs in mind, the declaration notes the importance of a trade environment that is free, open and fair.
During the three-day TICAD 9, Ishiba met separately with 34 leaders from African countries.
He said he was able to understand the needs of each country and identify paths toward further strengthening relations with them.
