Climate change: Rare footage of Coral spawning in Tokyo Bay

Shimizu Junpei, NTV Cameraman: The coral is beginning to spawn eggs one after another. Pink eggs! They’re coming out slowly.

On August 25 at around 9:00PM, Nippon TV cameras captured rare footage confirming that coral in Tokyo Bay had begun spawning.

This is the first time in about 30 years that coral spawning has been observed in Tokyo Bay.

According to experts, global warming and the meandering of the Kuroshio Current have caused water temperatures to rise, resulting in an increase in the number of species of coral and fish inhabiting southern waters.

The area of coral that spawned this time has grown to approximately four times its size from 30 years ago.
