Japans mobile payment app PayPay to begin overseas usage

Japan’s mobile payment app PayPay announced plans to begin overseas usage for verified users in a press conference held in Tokyo on September 16.

The overseas payment mode in the app will allow users to make cashless payments just as they do in Japan while traveling abroad and to continue collecting in-app points.

The new program is set to start in South Korea as early as late September.

PayPay will be available as a payment option in over two million businesses in South Korea that accept other payment forms such as Alipay+.

The app will show the local exchange rate with fees included and the conversion in Japanese yen.

Other in-app functions like splitting the bill and topping up the balance will be available in the overseas payment mode as well.

PayPay intends to expand the service to more countries.
