Japan and S. Korea agree to strengthen energy security cooperation

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung / We agreed that recent disruptions to supply chains and energy markets caused by the situation in the Middle East have made close cooperation between our two countries even more important.

Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae /  At a time when the international community is facing growing instability and uncertainty, I believe it is highly significant that Japan and South Korea are maintaining close communication through shuttle diplomacy.

The two leaders made their remarks after summit talks in South Korea.

During the talks, the two leaders agreed to promote two key areas of cooperation.

These include strengthening energy supply resilience and energy security between Japan and South Korea through mutual supply arrangements for crude oil, petroleum products, and LNG.


The two countries also agreed to establish a new industry and trade policy dialogue that will involve senior officials from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
