Personal information of millions potentially leaked in cyberattacks

Daiwa Securities announced on October 5 that unauthorized access was detected on the server of a third-party vendor between October 2 and October 3.

The information that may have been compromised includes the names, email addresses and account numbers of approximately 110,000 customers.

The total number of affected records could reach approximately 220,000 when combined with information that cannot be used to identify individuals.

Daiwa Securities says the leaked information alone cannot be used to access securities accounts or execute trades, and that no unauthorized transactions have been confirmed at this time.

Monogatari Corporation, which operates the Yakiniku King Japanese barbecue restaurant chain, also announced that personal information of some users registered with its official app was leaked due to unauthorized access.

The number of leaked records exceeds 10 million and reportedly includes names, email addresses and phone numbers.

The company says information such as dates of birth, gender and ZIP codes registered in the app was not compromised.

Monogatari Corporation warns that the leaked personal information could be misused for spoofed emails or phishing scams.

The company is urging customers to be cautious of suspicious emails and phone calls and not to open any links or attachments they do not recognize.
