Two boys injured in monkey attack in Himeji as sightings rise
This footage captures a monkey walking on top of a building and sitting down.
It was taken at around 6 p.m. on May 26 in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, in western Japan.
On the same day, police received a report of a monkey sighting in the same area, but it is not clear whether it was the monkey seen in the video.
When police rushed to the scene, two 12-year-old junior high school boys said they had been attacked by a monkey.
Officials said both sustained minor injuries including scratches to their shoulders.
Since around April, there have been multiple reports of monkey sightings in Himeji.
In at least four different locations, a total of six people has been injured.
We spoke with the person who filmed the monkey.
S/ Monkey witness / There were police officers nearby, and the monkey appeared frightened. I felt that it would definitely be scary if it came close to me.
Police are urging people not to provoke the animal in the event they encounter a monkey.
They recommend leaving the area immediately.
