Emperor and his family attend tea party for Japan Academy Prize Winners
Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako and their daughter Princess Aiko attended a tea party held for the recipients of the Japan Academy Prize.
This year's Japan Academy Prize, which honors researchers for outstanding academic achievements, was awarded to 12 recipients across nine research groups. Emperor Naruhito attended the award ceremony.
The Imperial Prize, presented to researchers of exceptional distinction, was awarded to Professor Gotoh Yukiko of the University of Tokyo Graduate School for her research on intracellular signaling mechanisms and her contributions to advances in cancer treatment and other fields.
The Emperor and Empress listened to her presentation at the Imperial Palace, and asked questions such as how she planned to develop her research and what was the biggest challenge.
They also joined a tea party together with Princess Aiko and other imperial family members, where they spoke with the award recipients.
