Kamchatka quake largest since 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake: USGS

The US Geological Survey said the magnitude 8.8 earthquake that struck near Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on July 30 was the largest since the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

The USGS also said it was one of the world's 10 biggest quakes since 1900.

This is Hawaii, where tsunami waves of up to 3 meters were expected to occur.

A tsunami of about 1.7 meters has been observed on Maui, and there are no reports of damage.

Stores in Hawaii have closed and many flights to and from the islands have been canceled.

US weather authorities said tsunami waves have also reached California on the West Coast of mainland United States.
