Sumo champion Onosato attended a parade held in his honor on June 29 to celebrate his ascension to yokozuna.

Around 37,000 fans came to catch a glimpse of the new yokozuna in his hometown of Tsubata, Ishikawa Prefecture.

Onosato enjoyed the fanfare as the first Japanese yokozuna in eight years ahead of his yokozuna debut at the Nagoya meet.

S/ Onosato, Yokozuna/ Tomorrow is the ranking announcement so celebrations will end today, and starting tomorrow I would like to channel the many cheers from everyone into power and work hard towards the Nagoya meet.
