Princess Aiko to give her first official address at medical congress

Princess Aiko is scheduled to give an address at the opening ceremony of a conference of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine in Tokyo on May 3.

This will be her first speech as part of official duties.

The 23rd Congress on Disaster and Emergency Medicine gathers researchers and others involved in disaster emergency medical care from around the world.

Participants are expected to deepen their knowledge of medical systems at places like disaster sites through workshops and other events.

The Imperial Household Agency said the princess has interest in disaster relief activities and emergency medical services.

On April 23, she was briefed by experts about the current state of emergency medical care in times of disasters.

Aiko's last solo official duty was in March when she attended the naming and launching ceremony for an arctic research vessel in Yokohama.

She is the only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako.
