Five children injured after 4-meter festival float overturns

Five teenagers aged between 9 and 14 were injured after the approximately four-meter-tall festival float they were on overturned on September 23.

The accident occurred during a festival at Ikeda Hachiman Shrine in Ikeda, Nagano Prefecture.

According to police, 21 people were riding on the float. Five elementary and junior high school students were transported to the hospital after the float overturned. They sustained minor injuries.

Festival participant / The ground was sandy, so maybe that’s why the float tried to stop but fell over.

The overturned float had paraded through the town before entering the shrine grounds.

Police are investigating the cause of the overturn in detail.
