Resignation agency operators arrested for receiving illegal lawyer referral fees
Tokyo police arrested the 37-year-old president of Albatross, the company that operates resignation agency Momuri, and his 31-year-old wife, who serves as an executive of the firm, on suspicion of violating the attorney law.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the two are suspected of referring six individuals who requested resignation proxy services from Momuri to lawyers between July and October 2024 and receiving referral fees of 16,500 yen for each person even though they do not have a license to practice law.
The suspects are believed to have received the payments from lawyers under the pretense of donations to a non-existent labor union, knowing such conduct was illegal.
Both have denied the allegations.
The police are also investigating the lawyers who are believed to have received the referrals.
