Takaichi reaffirms unwavering Japan-US alliance in phone talks with Trump after his China visit

Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae reaffirms an unwavering bilateral alliance during a 15-minute phone conversation with US President Donald Trump after he concludes his visit to China.

We had a very good discussion today as well, and I was able to reaffirm with President Trump an unwavering Japan-US alliance.

US President Donald Trump concluded his visit to China on the afternoon of May 15 and spoke with Takaichi on the phone for about 15 minutes while aboard Air Force One.

The Japanese leader told reporters that Trump gave her a detailed explanation of his visit to Beijing.

She said they exchanged views mainly on issues related to China, such as the economy and security, and reaffirmed that the two sides will continue close communication on matters including the situation in the Indo-Pacific region and developments in Iran.

Takaichi also said she and Trump are looking forward to meeting at the Group of Seven summit scheduled for June in France.
